Forza Horizon 4 is a PC and Xbox multiplayer, open world racing game is set in Great Britain. It is great in every aspect – the scenery is beautiful, there are hundreds of quests to suit everyone’s taste and best of all, the map is huge and you can drive everywhere!
What is Forza Horizon even?
Until fairly recently I only knew the name Forza. After having built a workstation PC for my studies, I decided to also harness the power of the RTX 2060 GPU. After trying out the Xbox Game Pass subscription, I decided to buy this game. One of the first games you’ll see in the Microsoft Store will be Forza Horizon 4. This is definitely not only due to the fact that this game is distributed by Microsoft. In June 2019 Horizon 4 surpassed the 10 000 000 player mark. Forza Horizon 4 is part of the Forza franchise. Other games include seven Forza Motorsport games and the three preceding Horizon games.
This über-popular game is a racing game with a twist. The map is huge and you can drive where you please, as long as your vehicle can handle the terrain. To go places you can’t drive, there’s “Drone Mode”. As the name suggests this mode lets you fly around in a drone and, yes, you can also capture images with your drone. The game has some great multiplayer features, including on-road, dirt and cross-country racing and live group events.
If you are serious about fine-tuning your engine, you’ll be happy to know that you can customise vehicles completely. The game has multiple radio stations to choose from and the radio presenter will often also announce new challenges. These challenges is another great feature of Forza. You can smash things, race, jump off cliffs, speed over a speed camera, do movie stunts, race trains… Almost every time I open the game map something new appears.
What makes Horizon 4 unique?
You won’t easily find another game with a real-life feeling like Forza Horizon 4. Firstly, the views are just amazing – a sunset in Forza will make you pause the game to appreciate it. In fact, the developers created a photo mode to capture and share these moments. Being set in the UK, the locations are also very real. You might be surprised by the levels of similarity between the game and the real world. Oh, and there’s also four seasons in the game to spice up the game-play a bit – from wet and wild to snowy and slippery.
But wait – there is more!
Yes, there’s more. At the time of this post, there are two expansion packs – Fortune Island and, well… LEGO Speed Champions.
Fortune Island has some spectacular lightning shows, beautiful mountains and scenic drives along the coast. The map is much smaller than mainland Great Britain, but it’s still very much worth it! There are a few treasures hidden and you will unlock and find them as you progress through the game.
In LEGO Speed Champions, as you can expect, about everything is replaced with LEGO equivalents – plants, people, buildings and even some cars. This makes for an interesting add-on! The expansion also adds brick challenges, so you’ll be kept busy for a while.
Overall, you can be assured of a good buy should you decide to buy Forza Horizon 4. It will likely be one of my favourite PC games for the next couple of years.
